PUBLIC ART PROJECTS

The Marion Cultural Alliance was founded as a result of Ocala's first public project, Horse Fever. The principles Laurie Manard and Paula King created the project which produced fifty two life size horses which were painted by artists, displayed throughout Marion County and later sold at auction.

Proceeds generated funds to create the Marion Cultural Alliance and also benefited charities of the purchasers' choice.

In recognition of its public arts project, Barkitecture, the city of Ocala has been designed as Dogtown, Florida.

Horse Fever resulted in putting Ocala on the map for public art projects in the United States. It was such a phenomenally successful project that a comittment was made to continue creating public art projects.
