About the Salon Group of MCA
The Salon Group of MCA is a philanthropic group of individuals promoting the advancement of creative, visual and performing arts in Marion County. This group of approximately 30 members sponsors scholarships to those individuals seeking financial aid in furthering their artistic pursuits. As part of their mission, the group donates 20%
of their annual membership fee to the Marion Cultural Alliance (MCA). These monies are used by MCA for their Cultural Grants and Endowment Fund. The word “Salon” can be defined as a gathering of stimulating people under the roof of a host or hostess. The reason for this gathering is to partly educate themselves about the local artists and increase the opportunities for such artists, both young and not so young.
The Salon Group of MCA was started in 2004 and is patterned after a group in Miami, Florida called The Miami Salon Group. This group is widely known for their contributions in the art world in Miami. Marion Montanari is the founder of the Salon Group here and was one of the founders of the Miami Group. Private salon groups have continued since the late 1880’s to the early 1900’s in Paris. Today, the Salon Group of MCA continues the tradition of meeting in member’s private homes for conversation, dinner and great fun while promoting the arts in Marion County.
